Family Fun Day
& Marshall: A Nantucket Sea Rescue Launch
Sunday, July 6, 2008
10 AM – 4 PM
Nantucket Shipwreck and Lifesaving Museum will host Family Fun Day on Sunday July 6, 2008, as part of its grand-reopening celebration. Admission is free. Events will include storytelling, a lightship basket weaving demonstration, and hands-on activities. Author Whitney Stewart will be on hand signing her new children’s book, Marshall: A Nantucket Sea Rescue. The book and several vignettes throughout the museum were inspired by the real-life tale of Marshall, a friendly Newfoundland dog who was rescued by life-savers at the island’s Surfside Life-Saving Station in 1877. Celebrating the museum’s mascot, the book will be available at the museum’s gift shop and may be purchased one of several ways: small size book for $2.95, small size book with accompanying plush Newfoundland dog toy for $9.95, and regular size book with accompanying CD for $4.95.
